How to read a passport ranking without over-reading the number

A ranking is a useful summary of mobility data. It is not a border decision, a guarantee of admission or a substitute for the rule that applies to one journey.

Start with the methodology

Different indexes count access differently. Some include visa-free travel, visa on arrival and electronic authorisations in one mobility score, while others weight categories or add broader quality-of-life measures.

EntryAtlas keeps its bundled Passport Power dataset separate from the dated external ranking snapshot so a live planning score is not presented as the same thing as a published index rank.

A score still needs a destination check

A passport score compresses many destination relationships into one number. It cannot tell you whether a particular trip needs an ETA, whether a stay-length limit applies, or whether your passport validity is sufficient for that destination.

Use rankings for discovery, then move to the destination guide and official authority before booking.

Compare like with like

When comparing passports, use the same dataset date and the same scoring categories. A difference of a few points can come from electronic access, visa-on-arrival access or data updates rather than a dramatic change in practical travel freedom.
